A King Shepherd puppy is a big resposibility. Please research the breed to the fullest extent before makng your decision as to whether a King Shepherd is the right breed for you.
Dogs used in our breeding program will be carefully selected based upon health, temperament, and breed conformation.
HEALTH:
The Penn--Hip method is used to evaluate the hips of all current and potential breeding stock. One of the major goals in the development of the King Shepherd breed is to reduce the incidence of hip dysplasia and only dogs that have been x-rayed and have acceptable scores will be used in our breeding program. Dazzle has hips scores in the 90th percentile which is near perfect! Sergeant's hip scores are 80th percentile. Chief scored in the 90th percentile.
Dazzle has been DNA tested for Degenerative Myelopathy. She does not carry the gene & therefore it is impossible for her offspring to develope DM unless she was bred to a dog who is genetically at risk. Sergeant & Chief are clear by parentage for the DM gene. All stud dogs we use will be tested to ensure her pups will never be at risk of developing DM. Not many breeders are utilizing this DNA test & we are proud to be able to say that we have gone to these lengths to ensure healthy pups.
DNA is on file for identifying Dazzle's progeny at University of California, Davis.

TEMPERAMENT:
King Shepherds display a stable, sound, temperament. They are not hyper or overly aggressive. While very loving with their families and friends, they are generally aloof with strangers. Kings are extremely intelligent and are very trainable, in both obedience and as personal protection dogs. Our puppies will only come from stable parents. Grandparents of our dogs are also very stable ensuring generations of obedient, loving pets.
BREED CONFORMATION:
With health and temperment being the most important traits, King Shepherds are also bred for size. The height at the highest point of the withers should be a minimum of 27 inches for dogs, and a minimum of 25 inches for bitches. The minimum weight for a dog is 110 pounds with the ideal weight being 120-145 pounds. The minimum weight for a bitch is 80 pounds with an ideal weight being 90-110 pounds. Weight is in proportion to the overall size and structure with preference given to the larger. Dazzle currently stands at least 26" at the withers.
Puppies come in several colors such as black and tan, black and red, black and cream, varous shades of sable and all black. There are two types of coats available, long and smooth.
Our breeding dogs are shown in conformation dog shows and will earn titles before they are bred.
